My group of 4 engineering students were instructed to take apart an existing RC car and manufacture a new chassis, cover and wheels for it. We then raced our car against other groups and had to simulate automating the manufacturing process for the parts.

The biggest challenge of this project was to apply design for manufacture. In designing our RC car, we had to keep in mind the size of tools available to us, and the fact that they can only come from one side in the mill, tolerances and fits, and the strength of the material.

Our group won the race, but did not manage to fully automate the manufacturing process.
